Subramania Swamy now takes up the case of death of Sunanda Pushkar

New Delhi, June 29 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), leader Subramanian Swamy, has sent legal notice to the government to expedite investigation into the mysterious death of lawmaker Shashi Tharoor’s wife, alleging involvement of few politicians. In January 2014, wife of the then Junior Minister Shashi Tharoor, 52-year-old Sunanda Pushkar, was found dead in a New Delhi hotel after she sent out tweets suggesting he (Tharoor) was involved in an affair with a Pakistan-based journalist. Swamy might ask the court to monitor the investigation, if the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) – conglomerate of BJP and its allies – government failed in doing so.

Devotees in India celebrate Rath Yatra offering prayers to Lord Jagannath

Kolkata, June 29 (ANI): The Chariot festival which has begun today has been celebrated by political leaders in various parts of the country who offered their prayers to the deities. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today visited Iskcon Temple here to offer her prayers to Lord Jagannath and his siblings Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra on the occasion of annual rath yatra. Earlier today Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh visited the Jagannath Temple and offered prayers in Delhi. While the Gujarat Chief Minister Anadiben Patel flagged off the annual Jagannath Yatra in Ahmedabad with prayers for a good monsoon as thousands of devotees thronged to seek the blessings of deities.

Sushma reassures families of abducted Indians in Iraq

New Delhi, June 29 (ANI): External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj assured those families whose members have been abducted in Iraq that all efforts are being done to rescue them during her meeting with them today. “Those who are held captive from Punjab (in Iraq) their families came to meet me, they had also met me on the 19th. “I shared with them the written message that came from our ambassador in Iraq regarding the abducted, I have told the families that once we get direct contact with our nationals held under captivity then we will be sanguine on Red Crescent’ version about their safety.,” she added. A similar meeting with the families of abducted Indians in Iraq had taken place earlier this month when Swaraj had assured the worried family members of full co-operation.

‘Designing Women’ actor Meshach Taylor dead at 67 – reports

U.S. actor Meshach Taylor, best known for his role as the affable assistant on the hit television show “Designing Women,” has died at age 67, Los Angeles media reported on Sunday. Taylor died Saturday near Los Angeles “after bravely fighting a terminal illness,” his agent Dede Binder told the Hollywood Reporter. “His loving family was by his side.” On Friday, Taylor’s family posted on his Facebook page that he had begun to slip away. Taylor’s portrayal of Anthony Bouvier on the sitcom “Designing Women,” which ran from 1986 to 1993 and starred Annie Potts and Delta Burke, earned him rave reviews for his demeanor and comic timing as he sparred with four Southern interior decorators.

Box Office Collection of ‘Ek Villain’ and ‘Humshakals’

Siddharth Malhotra, Shraddha Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh starrer ‘Ek Villain‘ released on June 27. The mystery-thriller earned huge response from the audience on the first day of its release by collecting 16.75 crore nett, reportedly. By collecting this figure, it proved second best after ‘Jai Ho‘ starring Salman Khan. ‘Ek Villain‘ was released across more than 2500 screens and received mixed reviews from the critics.

On Saturday, this directorial by Mohit Suri witnessed a fall by around 15% and is expected to garner 15.95 crore nett to 16.25 crore nett on second day, as per the early trends. If it makes so, the total two days collection of the film will be around 32.80 crore nett. Also, the flick is anticipated to cross the figure of 50 crore nett over the first weekend of its release. In the overseas market, ‘Ek Villain‘ managed to collect 11.10 crore nett and is expected to collect around 15 crore nett during the first weekend, as per the report. The film reported the total worldwide collection of 43.90 crore nett till now.

Talking about Sajid Khan‘s last week release ‘Humshakals‘, the film bagged multiple negative reviews, however continued to entertain the audience over its comedy quotient. The multi-starrer comic caper collected 12.50 crore nett on day one, while the second day collections of the film were 12.59 crore nett and Sunday collections rose up to 15.04 crore nett. Monday witnessed low response by garnering 05.10 crore nett and it raked in 04.25 crore nett on Tuesday. 03.75 crore nett were the Wednesday collections of the laughter ride, thereby making the total domestic collection of the film up to 53.23 crore nett. ‘Humshakals‘ recorded the overseas collection up to 12.16 crore nett, reportedly. The total worldwide collection of the film went up to 65.39 crore nett, as per the report.
