Director Steven Spielberg is shown on screen discussing his partnership on Halo the television Series during the Xbox One launch unveiling Microsoft's new Xbox in Redmond

By Ronald Grover and Lisa Richwine LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Microsoft Corp intends to wind down Xbox Entertainment Studios, a source familiar with its plans said, becoming the first major tech company to give up on making original shows in a battle for the living room couch. The studio, set up in 2012 under then-Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer, said in April it had committed to several projects including “Humans,” a drama co-produced with UK broadcaster Channel 4, and “Halo,” a digital feature based on the best-selling Xbox game. Hollywood director and producer Ridley Scott is making “Halo” and it will survive the cutback, according to the source familiar with Microsoft’s plans who was not authorized to speak on the record. Microsoft was among several tech companies that raced to add original TV-like content after the release in February 2013 of Netflix Inc’s “House of Cards,” a political thriller that built buzz for streaming video and earned the first Emmy nominations for a show delivered exclusively online.

Elaine Stritch, a husky-voiced actress whose performances over six decades lit up New York’s Broadway and London’s West End and brought a touch of the profane to the stage with her brassy personality, died on Thursday at age 89. Stritch, who also had Emmy-winning roles on the television shows “30 Rock” and “Law & Order,” died at home in Birmingham, Michigan, a suburb of her native Detroit, from natural causes, her spokesman said. Stritch worked with some of the stage’s greatest composers – from Noel Coward, who called her Stritchie, to Stephen Sondheim, who wrote what became her signature song, the show-stopping “The Ladies Who Lunch,” from the 1970 musical “Company.” Her performances were not the only things that made Stritch a Broadway legend. In a May 2013 interview with actor Alec Baldwin, Stritch agreed with his assessment that she was a “legendary pain in the ass.” She played the mother of Baldwin’s “30 Rock” character, TV network boss Jack Donaghy.

First Look of Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘XES’ Out Now!

July 17, 2014 0

Just when we thought no genre is left to be explored by Ram Gopal Varma, he surprised us all over again by coming up with the unexplored “erotica” genre in his upcoming film ‘XES‘.

Ram Gopal Varma unveiled the exclusive first look posters of his upcoming film ‘XES‘ on Facebook followed by a caption “Ever since I have started my career I have done films in almost every conceivable genre as in ‘Shiva’ (2006) (student politics), ‘Rangeela‘ (love story), ‘Bhoot‘ (horror), ‘Satya‘ (gangster), ‘Daud‘ (caper), ‘Sarkar‘ (2005) (Drama), ‘Kaun‘ (psychological thriller), ‘Attacks of 26/11’ (terrorism) to name a few.. But one genre that I have never tried my hand at is Erotica… I primarily decided to now do films in genres I have never done before and ‘XES‘ will be the first Hindi film I am going to do in my attempt to travel in that direction…”

Through ‘XES‘, he will be exploring the facet of the human mind to its upper limit by placing an assortment of characters in six different sexual situations which will be all connected through one central story line. In an erotically charged atmosphere, the film will bring out the emotions of guilt, betrayal, helplessness, embarrassment, hurt and above all empathy.

Now going by the ‘XES‘ title’s reverse, it is but obvious that the film will be bold enough to turn the heads around. Hope, this genre will prove RGV’s comeback to the success!
