Political leaders express worry about turmoil in Pakistan

New Delhi, Aug 31 (ANI): Even as the confrontation between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) party chief Imran Khan led protesters and the Pakistani government continues, political leaders across India expressed their worry about the crisis and hoped that democracy would bring peace in the neighbouring country. Commenting on the crisis situation faced by Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, BJP’s Siddharth Nath Singh told ANI, “This is their internal matter but we would hope that democracy would bring peace in Pakistan.” Janata Dal United (JD-U) chief Sharad Yadav also said that the internal turmoil within Pakistan was worrying as it can also affect India.

John Travolta set to star in John McTiernan’s ‘Warbirds’

Washington, Aug 31 (ANI): John McTiernan has announced his plan of directing a movie titled ‘Warbirds’ starring John Travolta in the lead role. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the ‘Die Hard’ director, who is fighting a contentious bankruptcy dispute over a 3,254-acre ranch in Wyoming, revealed that plans while testifying in court about what he has been doing for the last one year and what he intends to do next. McTiernan added that in a bid to rebuild his career, he plans to begin shooting for his film for which offers have been sent to Queen Latifah and Johnny Knoxville, this autumn.

Panaji, Aug 31 (ANI): Noted writer and senior Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) leader Mridula Sinha, after taking oath as the Governor of Goa, said that she will work to solve the problems of the society and family. “I have always been doing something for women, preservation of the family and the poor people and will continue to do so with the cooperation of Goa Chief Minister because I think that the problems of the family, and the society should be solved first, although I know that Goa is not a problematic state,” said Sinha. Expressing happiness over the occasion, Union Minister of State for Tourism and Culture Shripad Naik said, “I am happy that we got a full time governor for Goa. The Central Government has given us a good Governor and I thank them for this.” Earlier this month, following the completion of the tenure of Margaret Alva, who had been serving as the Governor of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Goa, President Pranab Mukherjee had temporarily assigned Gujarat Governor Om Prakash Kohli with the duties of the Governor of Goa in addition to his own duties.

Al Pacino claims ‘depression is in all of us’

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the 74-year-old American actor admitted that he is depressed sometimes, as certain things make him sad, but he doesn’t know about it, and added that depression is ominous and everyone can relate to it. ‘The Godfather’ actor added that people get into depression and its “terrifying”, and even confessed that he has come close to it a few times, but feels lucky and spared that it wasn’t so “deep”. He further added that he took up the role in ‘The Humbling’ as he is familiar with depression and found similarities with the character.

By Marafaela Mohloboli and John Mkhize MASERU (Reuters) – Lesotho Prime Minister Thomas Thabane accused Deputy Prime Minister Mothetjoa Metsing of helping to plan a coup by the army that forced the prime minister to flee the country. Metsing took charge of the government once Thabane had fled the country for neighbouring South Africa. Thabane left on Saturday, after the army surrounded his residence and police stations in Lesotho’s capital, Maseru. Gunshots were heard in Maseru on Saturday, where one policeman was shot dead and four others wounded, said senior police superintendent Mofokeng Kolo.

By Marafaela Mohloboli and John Mkhize MASERU (Reuters) – Lesotho’s Deputy Prime Minister Mothetjoa Metsing has taken charge of the government after the Prime Minister Thomas Thabane fled the country accusing the army of staging a coup, a minister said on Sunday. Thabane, who has been in a fractious coalition government with his political rival Metsing, left for neighbouring South Africa on Saturday after the army surrounded his residence and police stations in Lesotho’s capital, Maseru. “For now there hasn’t been any arrangement, but it goes without saying the deputy prime minister will still oversee other issues that need to be taken care of until the prime minister returns.” Relations have been stormy between Thabane’s All Basotho Convention party and Metsing’s Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) group, which formed a coalition with another party after elections in 2012.
