Intel explores wearable devices for Parkinson’s disease research

By Christina Farr SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – Intel Corp plans to use wearable gadgets such as smart watches to monitor patients with Parkinson’s disease and collect data that can be shared with researchers. On Wednesday, the chip maker said it is teaming up with the Michael J. Fox Foundation, established by the actor and Parkinson’s sufferer in 2000, to conduct a multi-phase research study of the neurodegenerative brain disease. An estimated five million people globally have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, the second-most-common neurudegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s. The initial goal is to determine the feasibility of using wearable devices to monitor patients remotely and store that data in an open system that can be accessed by scientists. Participants will be monitored via an array of wearable devices.

Robin Williams hung himself with a belt

The preliminary investigation into the death of Robin Williams found that the Oscar-winning actor and comedian hung himself with a belt in a bedroom of his Northern California home, the Marin County sheriff’s department has said.

Keith Boyd told a press conference Tuesday that the case remained open and it would take several weeks before the official cause of death could be known.

Not responsible for change in Daawat-e-Ishq release date: Parineeti Chopra

The release date of “Daawat-e-Ishq” has been shifted to Sep 19 from Sep 5 and the film’s lead actress Parineeti Chopra clarifies that she is not responsible for the change.

“This is the producer’s decision, Adi’s (Aditya Chopra) decision. The marketing team at Yash Raj Films came up with a brilliant marketing idea and they needed time to execute it,” the 25-year-old said here Tuesday at a Whisper event.

“A Sep 5 release was very early and even a week’s delay didn’t leave us enough time for the promotional strategy. So, we pushed it ahead by two weeks,” she added.

Akshay Kumar pens and raps Dare 2 Dance title song

Akshay Kumar, who returns to the small screen with dance reality show “Dare 2 Dance”, has written lyrics of the title track and even rapped it.

Akshay will be mentoring the contestants on the show, shot in Cape Town, South Africa. It will air on Life OK soon.

He wrote the lyrics in a day’s time. The rap matches the content of the show, which is about pushing oneself to the extreme to do the impossible, read a statement.

'Mohenjo Daro' shoot to begin in South Africa in October

Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, who has collaborated with Disney India to co-produce his next mega project “Mohenjo Daro”, will roll the cameras for the Hrithik Roshan starrer in South Africa in October.

Gowariker will direct the film, which will introduce Miss India Universe 2010 second runner-up Pooja Hegde in Bollywood.

Its first schedule for the epic adventure and love story set during the Indus Valley Civilzation, will begin in South Africa.
