New Delhi, Aug.4 (ANI): Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi has reportedly suggested that her son Varun Gandhi be made the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. Addressing a public meeting in her parliamentary constituency of Pilibhit, Sunday, Maneka said that it would be better if Uttar Pradesh government was headed by the BJP, and even better if Varun Gandhi was governing the state. She made the remarks while blaming the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party for the slow pace of development in the state. Maneka said of Varun: “I think he is doing very well.

New Delhi, August 4 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh (UP) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Laxmikant Bajpai said Monday that it is too early to comment on Union Minister for Women and Child Welfare Maneka Gandhi’s reported suggestion to make her son Varun Gandhi the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. “It is correct that if the Bharatiya Janta Party forms a government in Uttar Pradesh, then there will be a definite improvement in the circumstances, the law position will be better and development will also take place,” said Bajpai “But the issue of who will be the chief minister and when the government is to be formed, is too early to talk about. New Delhi, Aug 4 (ANI): The government and leaders of parties opposing the Insurance Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2008 and other parties in the Rajya Sabha today held a meeting to share each other’s concerns in the matter. Congress leader Anand Sharma said his party wanted clarity on the implication of the proposed Bill inter alia, on the settled definition of ‘Foreign Direct Investment’ given the composite nature of 49 percent FDI proposed in Insurance Sector, including Foreign Institutional Investment. Finance Minister Arun Jaitely in his response said the language and contents of the proposed Bill were that of the UPA government only and no major new amendments were proposed.

Congress party’s star campaigner Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra may assume a big role in the party, most likely after the next round of assembly elections later this year.

New Delhi, Aug 4 (ANI): India has reportedly summoned Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India and lodged a formal protest against a derogatory article about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. The offending article appeared in the defence ministry’s website last week, and was promptly withdrawn after a hue and cry was raised over it in India. Television reports quoted External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj saying in Parliament on Monday that India condemns derogatory article published in Sri Lanka, and of taking up the matter seriously with Colombo.
