TVK protests against Sri Lanka government

Chennai, Aug.2 (ANI): Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) members today staged a protest against the Sri Lankan Government for releasing a controversial article on its Ministry of Defence website regarding the letters written by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over fishermen’s issues. Around 200 members participated in the protest and raised slogans against the Sri Lankan government and also burnt the effigy of Lankan president Rajapakse and tried to take a procession towards the Sri Lankan Embassy in the city. Velmurugan, leader of the TVK said, “We condemn this act and demand that the central government should take strong steps in this issue by warning the Sri Lankan president or arresting the Sri Lanka High Commissioner. The Sri Lankan Defence Ministry had on Friday tendered an unqualified apology to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa over an article criticising Jayalalithaa for writing frequently to Prime Minister Modi on issues related to Sri Lanka and the fishermen’s issue.

Punjab is the most peaceful state in the country says CM Badal

Lambi (Punjab), 2, August, 2014 (ANI): Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today outrightly refuted allegations leveled by the opposition regarding the law and order problem in the state. He said that the top most priority of the Akaali Dal-BJP alliance government was to maintain peace in the state, adding that ever since the alliance government had taken over the reins, Punjab has witnessed an era of peace, communal harmony and brotherhood. “The biggest achievement of my government is that despite of being a border state, Punjab is today considered as the most peaceful state in the country” added Badal. Revealing state’s support to the sports, he said that the state government would honor all the players, who had brought laurels for the state by bagging medals in the ongoing Commonwealth games.

Modi reaches Nepal Sunday leading 101-member team

Kathmandu, Aug 2 (IANS) Narendra Modi, accompanied by a 101-member delegation including seven ministers, arrives here Sunday on a two-day visit, making it the first bilateral visit by an Indian prime minister to this Himalayan nation in 17 years. Nepal is the second neighbouring country Modi is visiting after Bhutan in June. The last bilateral visit by an Indian prime minister to Nepal was by I.K. Gujral in June 1997. Indian prime ministers have gone to Nepal but as part of multilateral visits.
