UK Foreign Secretary and Chancellor of the Exchequer to visit India next week

New Delhi, July 5 (ANI): The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, United Kingdom, William Hague and the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne will be on an official visit to India from July 7-July 8 this year. The UK Foreign Secretary will hold delegation level talks with External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, at Hyderabad House on July 8.

Nigeria threatened with FIFA suspension after leaders sacked

FIFA has warned Nigeria about possible suspension after a regional court ordered the sacking of the country’s football association and the appointment of a new administrator to run the game in the populous west African nation. Nigeria’s government has been set a deadline of Tuesday to restore the leadership of the Nigerian Football Federation to their position or the country could be suspended from playing in international competitions. “FIFA has learnt from various sources that the Nigerian Football Federation has been served with court processes and that consequently an order restraining the President of the NFF, his Executive Committee members and the NFF Congress from running the affairs of Nigerian football has been granted by a High Court of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” said a FIFA statement.

All parties agreed to cooperate in parliament: Sumitra Mahajan

NewDelhi, July 5 (ANI): Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan today said that all parties have agreed to cooperate with the government during the upcoming Budget Session. The government has agreed for discussions, as it wants to take everybody onboard in all decisions,” said Mahajan after the all party meet. She asserted that the main focus of Budget Session will be on the Rail Budget and General Budget, which will be presented before the parliament. Oommen Chandy says all stranded nurses in Iraq are safe

New Delhi, July 4 (AN): Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Friday confirmed the release of all 46 Indian nurses held in captivity, and reassured their families and others that they were safe. “All the nurses are safe, and they want to come back to India at the earliest. Government of India, state government and the Indian embassy in Baghdad all worked together, and finally we have achieved the nurses’ release,” Chandy said at a press conference. “Government of India agreed to send a special aircraft to send 46 nurses back to Kochi tomorrow morning, so we are very thankful to the Centre and Indian embassy for their active involvement,” he added.

Digvijay Singh launches tirade against MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Tribals take to streets against construction of irrigation project

Polavaram (Andhra Pradesh)/Bhubaneshwar (Odisha), July 4 (ANI): Tribals in Maoist hot-bed areas in the country’s east coast took to streets beating drums and shouting slogans against the construction of the Polavaram irrigation project that was given a go-ahead by the previous ruling government earlier this year. Members of agitation group People Against Polavaram Project (PAPP) along with tribal communities from Odisha and neighbouring Telangana state led a march through villages in both states to spread awareness about the consequences of the irrigation project. “The aim of this march is to stop the Polavaram project because, in the name of the Polavaram project, the land of the tribal people is being stolen, their water is being stolen. An ordinance was promulgated by the BJP government last month merging some villages and mandals of Telangana with Seemandhra in a bid to deal with resettlement and rehabilitation those displaced by the Polavaram power project.

Raja today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take help from friendly countries to rescue the stranded nurses from Iraq. “Government should take the help of the friendly Arab world, I urge Modi to take help from other friendly nations,” said Raja Security expert Qamar Agha, however, expressed his doubt over the kidnapping of the stranded nurses. “I don’t know if the nurses in Iraq are being kidnapped or not, it’s hard to say anything.
