Priyanka not interested ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Mumbai, Aug 24 (IANS) Actress Priyanka Chopra has been nominated by many to take up the ALS ice bucket challenge, but she doesn’t seem to be interested. The challenge involves dumping buckets of ice water over one’s head to spread awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig’s disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Apart from Hollywood stars like Tom Cruise, Robert Pattinson and Nicole Kidman accepting it, Bollywood stars like Akshay Kumar, Bipasha Basu and Abhishek Bachchan also took up the challenge.

Om Puri misses golden era of Hindi cinema

Mumbai, Aug 24 (IANS) Versatile actor Om Puri, who has maintained just the right balance between commercial and parallel cinema, misses the good content on celluloid and rues that movie-making is now reduced to just money-making. “The best films were made in the 1950s and 1960s,” Puri, who has just won accolades for his work in Hollywood venture “The Hundred Foot Journey”, expressed his views during a group interview. Remembering the era dominated by the likes of Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand, the 63-year-old said: “It was the golden period because subjects were great, nice meaningful songs were there… (but) these days people forget new songs within two months.” “Cinema was more responsible in the 1950s and 1960s. Although he admits that the industry is equipped with better technology, yet stylish and commercial cinema dominates hard-hitting subjects.

China shuts down Beijing Independent Film Festival

Washington, Aug 24 (ANI): Chinese authorities recently shut down an annual independent film festival in Beijing on its opening day and seized documents and films from organizers. According to the Hollywood reporter, the festival tries to offer a platform for independent cinema, but for many months now, China’s ruling Communist Party has been tightening the screws on dissenting views, including movies from outside the tightly monitored and heavily regulated Chinese film industry. Li Xianting, a critic and one of the organizers of the Beijing Independent Film Festival said that police searched his office and confiscated materials he had collected over more than 10 years.

Hamilton takes on ALS Ice Bucket Challenge ahead of Belgium GP

London, Aug 23 (ANI): Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton is the latest celebrity to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge after his girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger got drenched earlier on this week. Following his first practice session in Belgium on Friday ahead of this weekend’s Formula One race, the Brit got absolutely soaked whilst still wearing his racing gear. In a 20-second video posted online, Hamilton could be seen emerging from his car and walking towards the camera without saying a word before three men drench him with large buckets of water, The Daily Express reported. The Stevenage-born racing driver barely flinched during the challenge and even grinned at the camera before quickly walking off.

Steve Martin in final negotiations to star in Disney’s ‘Magic Camp’

Washington, Aug 23 (ANI): Steve Martin is reportedly in final negotiations with Disney to star in their upcoming family comedy ‘Magic Camp’. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the 69-year-old actor penned the most recent draft of the script with Stu Zicherman, the writer-director behind the comedy ‘A.C.O.D’. The story revolves around of a straitlaced banker who returns to Magic Camp, which he attended as a shy child, but this time he is a counselor who makes it his mission to improve the lives of all the kids while keeping an eye on his ultimate prize, i.e. The script was originally penned by Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, the team who worked on films such as ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ but Sachs and Judah are now acting as producers on Magic Camp.

New York, Aug 23 (IANS) Facebook has teamed up with entertainment show “Access Hollywood” to launch an app that will connect fans with their favourite celebrities in real time during the 66th Emmy Awards nights Aug 25. The tablet app called “Mentions Box” is designed to let celebrities at the Emmy Awards answer questions from their fans. Fans need to go to Access Hollywood’s Facebook page and ask questions for their favourite stars. The celebrities will look into the tablet’s camera and provide video responses to the questions in real time.
