New Delhi, July 3 (IANS) Did you miss the staging of “Side-Effects” last time in the capital? Inspired by Oscar-winning Hollywood director Woody Allen’s three wittiest stories — “The Lunatics Tale”, “Retribution” and “Remembering Needleman”, the Indian adaptation of “Side-Effects” will be staged Saturday and Sunday at Alliance Française in the capital. The opening show was on May 25,” Shah, who has directed it, told IANS in an email interaction. He has teamed up with Vishal Singh for the one-hour-and-20-minute English language play.

Indian film producers sign pact to collaborate with Canadian counterparts

Washington, July 3 (ANI): An agreement has been recently signed between India and Canada that would allow film producers in both countries to share resources on joint film and TV projects. India, and its giant Bollywood film industry, from July 1 became the 54th country to have an official co-production treaty with Canada, the Hollywood Reporter reported. The agreement would permit film producers in both countries to tap into various incentives and tax breaks offered by both the governments.

‘McHale’s Navy’ yes-man actor Bob Hastings dies

Veteran Hollywood actor Bob Hastings, best-remembered as a bootlicking lieutenant in the 1960s television World War Two comedy “McHale’s Navy,” has died at the age of 89. Hastings died at his home in Burbank, California, on Monday after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer, granddaughter Allison Knowles said. The Brooklyn-born Hastings first earned recurring roles on 1950s TV comedy “The Phil Silvers Show” and small parts on other programs before landing the role of yes-man Lieutenant Elroy Carpenter on “McHale’s Navy.” Hastings also appeared in several episodes of 1970s comedy “All in the Family” as well as performing voice work in dozens of episodes of 1990s program “Batman: The Animated Series.” Hastings, a World War Two veteran who voiced Archie Comics character Archie Andrews from 1945 to 1953 on NBC radio, was the older brother of Don Hastings, an actor best-known for his role as a physician on soap opera “As the World Turns.” Hastings is survived by his brother and four children, as well as by grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
