Second Lt. in the Indian Army in June 1955 and served in J&K; joined 63 Cavalry in February
1957; served in Nagaland as Sqn. Commander, 1964-65; Staff Course, Wellington, 1965; During the
Indo-Pak War, 1971, fought in Bangladesh, Mizoram-Counter Insurgency, 1976; Commander 3
(1) Armed Brigade, Brigadier, 1982; Maj. General Officer Commanding, Armed Division, 1985-88;
Director-General, Combat Vehicles, D.R.D.O., 1988-90; Lt. Gen. G.O.C. 2 Corps, 1990-92 and
Lt. Gen.-Deputy Chief of Army Staff, 1992-93; elected twice from Deoria constituency to
Lok Sabha; Main area of activity is upliftment of this backward area by improving infrastructure
like roads, electrification, schools, drinking water etc.
