Chhapra (Bihar), Aug 17 (ANI): Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leader Nitish Kumar today launched a scathing attack directed against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Sharing the dias with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in Chhapra, Nitish Kumar targeted the saffron party for spreading rumours and described them as part of rumour spreading society.

Kolkata, Aug 17 (ANI): Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) today opposed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to scrap the Planning Commission during his Independence Day speech at Red fort in the national capital. Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP, Sudip Bandyopadhyay today questioned the sudden need of doing away with the historic Planning Commission which was institutionalised by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose without discussing in the just-concluded session of parliament. He said that the step to dissolve the Planning Commission cannot be a right step and placed his party’s stand of raising this issue in the winter session of parliament.

Chhapra (Bihar), Aug 17 (ANI): RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav today blamed the division between his party and former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) for the debacle in the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections. “If we count the total number of votes given to the RJD and the JD(U), the number is much higher than the number of votes that BJP received,” he said at a rally which he shared with Nitish Kumar, campaigning for the upcoming by-elections in 10 constituencies in Bihar.

New Delhi, Aug 17 (ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Naresh Agarwal on Sunday mocked at the announcement of the new team of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah, calling it as yet another proof of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) authority running deep within the BJP.

New Delhi, Aug 17 (ANI): Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati today declared Arvind Sharma to be her party’s chief ministerial candidate for Haryana, on the occasion of the latter joining the BSP, switching from the Congress. Addressing a press meet, the BSP chief said, “If our party wins in the upcoming Haryana polls, Arvind Sharma will be our Chief Minister candidate.” She also added that if her party comes to power in Haryana, it will look after the interests of all sections of the society including people hailing from the weaker sections, minority community as well as upper castes.

New Delhi, Aug. 17 (ANI): Taking a dig at Bihar leaders Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad Yadav, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today said that the people of Bihar were smart enough to know what the nation wants. His remarks have come ahead of former arch rivals Lalu Prasad Yadav and Nitish Kumar’s second rally in Bihar’s Chhapra today. They are also seeing that from 15th August, Narendra Modi is talking of walking with 125crore people to change the nation. Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Ram Vilas Paswan’s son, Chirag Paswan also said that the two leaders were corrupt people who had come together.

Mainpuri (Uttar Pradesh), Aug 17 (ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Ram Gopal Yadav today rejected reports of former SP leader and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) Amar Singh’s re-entry into the party. The reports were fuelled after Mulayam Singh Yadav had shared the same stage with Singh during the inauguration of 367-acre Janeshwar Mishra Park. Amar Singh, who used to be a confidante of Mulayam once upon a time, had reportedly joined the mega event on the latter’s invitation.

Lucknow, Aug. 17 (ANI): Evading questions about the Saharanpur riots report submitted to UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav said today that he had not yet read the report. I haven’t read it yet.” Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had also said earlier today, “It is a report by their political party. I have nothing to say as I haven’t even seen the report.” Congress leader Manish Tewari, however, stepped up his criticism of both the Samajwadi party and the Central government. “Samajwadi Party government’s incompetence and BJP’s communal politics gave birth to communalism in UP.
