WB BJP president Sinha questions composition Mamata’s delegation to Singapore

Modi says India is shamed by rape in Independence Day speech
By Nita Bhalla NEW DELHI (Thomson Reuters Foundation) – Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke out against rape in his first Independence Day speech on Friday, saying the country was shamed by increasing reports of sexual violence against women and girls. “Today when we hear about these rapes, our heads hang in shame,” said Modi, from the ramparts of the 17th century Red Fort in old Delhi on the 68th anniversary of the country’s independence. Newspapers and television channels in India carry daily reports of the rapes of women and young girls, some murdered by the perpetrators to cover the crime. The high-profile gang rape and murder of a 23-year-old student on a bus in Delhi in December 2012 led to country-wide protests for better security for women and sparked national debate about gender inequalities in India.

CJI is worried that justice will come to an end: Abha Singh
New Delhi, Aug 15, (ANI): Noted lawyer and women rights activist Abha Singh has said that Chief Justice of India (CJI) is insecure and worried that the judiciary will be controlled by the parliament and the politicians. Advocate Abha Singh said, “When CJI Justice Lodha says that the judiciary, the parliament and the executives should be allowed to work independently, also when he says that only 1000 judges are appointed by the judiciary and the other 19000 judicial appointments are done by the executives, it shows that he is insecure and he is worried that the judiciary is now going to be controlled by the executives, that is the parliament and the politicians”. According to Singh, CJI is worried that justice will come to an end because judges will now be forced to give judgments which are in favour of the politicians. She said, “Now it will be the politicians who will ensure that people belonging to their camp are made judges of High Court and Supreme Court”.
