Indian-origin mathematician among winners of maths Nobel

Seoul, Aug 13 (IANS) Two Indian-origin mathematicians have won prestigious global prizes in the field of mathematics with one of them being awarded the Fields Medal – known as the “Nobel Prize of mathematics”. Manjul Bhargava, a professor of mathematics at Princeton University, was Wednesday conferred the Fields Medal at the International Congress of Mathematicians 2014 hosted by the International Mathematical Union (IMU) in Seoul, a press release issued by the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences said.

Ban TV soaps, says BSP lawmaker Satish Chandra Mishra

BSP parliamentarian Satish Chandra Mishra Tuesday urged the government to take steps to ban daily TV soaps, saying they depict women in poor light.

He also objected to the poster of Aamir Khan’s new film “PK“, saying it was “obscene”.

“TV serials show women to be scheming all the time. It is causing social damage,” the Bahujan Samaj Party member said while participating in a debate on the working of women and child development ministry in the Rajya Sabha.
