Kathmandu, Sep 4 (IANS) A meeting of Nepal’s major parties, expected to forge consensus on contentious issues coming in the way of framing the country’s new constitution, ended without any positive outcome, cross-party leaders said Thursday. The deadline of July next year set by the Constituent Assembly (CA) stipulates that all parties should settle contentious issues — mainly forms of governance and federalism — to pave the way for drafting a new constitution, Xinhua reported. Considering the deadline, the three major parties were engaged in decisive talks Thursday but failed to yield any positive result. “The three-party meeting failed to make any progress on contentious issues of the new constitution,” said Nepali Congress Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel after the meeting.

Amethi, Sept.4(ANI): Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi launched a direct attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi while on a visit to his parliamentary constituency of Amethi on Thursday. When residents of the constituency confronted him about the acute power crisis that they were facing, Gandhi, targetting the Prime Minister, said that the latter was just too busy playing drums in Japan, when the whole nation was battling a major power crisis, including his own parliamentary constituency.

Rahul Gandhi took a jibe on the NDA government’s 100 days, saying the government has failed to fulfil promises of containing price rise and corruption or deal with electricity shortage.

Jaipur, Sept. 4 (ANI): Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh was on Thursday sworn-in as the Governor of Rajasthan. President Pranab Mukherjee had earlier in August temporarily appointed Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik as the Governor of Rajasthan, following the completion of the tenure of Margaret Alva on August 5.

Coimbatore, (Kerala) Sept. 4 (ANI): Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) P. Sathasivam, who has been appointed as the next governor of Kerala, today said his appointment will be an advantage for the state, as he will be able to utilize his 19 years of experience as a judge for the people of Kerala. In fact, I had already settled in my native place, but, this is an opportunity to utilize my 19 years of experience as a judge,” said Justice Sathasivam. I am not a politician and I am not supporting any political party and I can utilize my rich experience for the people of Kerala,” he added. The Congress has questioned the government’s move to appoint Justice Sathasivam as the Kerala Governor, wondering if the Centre was pleased with his judgment in the case against BJP president Amit Shah.

Mumbai, Sept. 4 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Thursday hit out at the Prithviraj Chavan-led government in Maharashtra and called for a Congress-free India. I am confident that the campaign of Congress-free India will begin from Maharashtra and its effect will reach in all corners of India whether it is in the states of north, east and south,” Shah said while addressing a party gathering here.

New Delhi, Sept 4 (ANI): The Allahabad High Court on Thursday issued a notice to the Centre and Uttar Pradesh Government following a plea that sought action against BJP MP Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister Kalraj Mishra vis-a-vis the ‘love jihad’ issue. Reacting cautiously to the notice, BJP MP Sambit Patra told ANI, “All the problem in UP is due to the selective secularism by the ‘Saifai’ socialists. The law and order situation of Uttar Pradesh is dismal and that is why there is a sense of unhappiness not only in the people but also the court has taken a note of it.” “The UP Government should take a note of this and should improve its ways and means,” he added.
