With the voting for President of India over on 18th July, it is most likely that Pranab Mukherjee would be elected as the new President of India. Pranab Mukherjee would be the 13th President of India.

Opposition had no strong candidate against Pranab Mukherjee. P A Sangma did not get any support from his own party NCP. Several NDA partners like JDU supported Pranab Mukherjee openly strengthening Pranab’s chances of winning the elections.

Pranab Mukherjee is a veteran politician with over 45 years of experience in politics. He started his political career in 1969 under Late Indira Gandhi.

Pranab Mukherjee was a loyalist of Indira Gandhi but after her assasination he was sidelined by Rajiv Gandhi. Pranab Mukherjee then launched his own party by name Rashtriya Samajwadi Congress, this party was afloat for 3 years from 1986 to 1989. Rashtriya Samajwadi Congress merged with INC in 1989. Pranab Mukherjee got his second major chance from Late P V Narasimha Rao and since then Pranab Mukherjee held important positions in Congress governments. He is the No. 2 person in present UPA government, the No. 1 being Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
